Pomeroy's Diary detailing his experiences with
The 7th Kansas Cavalry We
all are indebted to Evelyn Boone, who retyped the
entire diary in digital form. The complete
version covers the period from August 18th, 1861
until Fletcher's return home after muster out on
October 23, 1865, where the closing words in his
diary are " I am at home
at last from the war, after an absence of more
than four years. I can account for my protection
where so many have fallen only through the
watchful care of Him who ' covered my head in the
day of battle.' "
