Wednesday, the 29th - Our company under Lieutenant Downing was stationed at Blue River bridge last night to prevent Quantrail's force from crossing the river there. With the river on one side, and with the other companies of our man on all other sides, we hoped to be able to capture his entire force, but we learned today that they broke the ice in the river, as it was not strong enough to bear their horses, and swam the river and so escaped. In a fight with them yesterday company "B" killed four and wounded one. Our company at the bridge was appraised during the night from sounds that the enemy was approaching. We stood to arms to repulse him if he attempted to cross the bridge. He did not make an attack however, and later crossed by swimming the river as stated.
Thursday, the 30th - Our men have been scouting the woods to-day to find any of Quantrail's men, if possible. Some of Company "D" got dinner at Mr. Cowarl's.
Friday, the 31st - Our Company and Company "E" went out on a scout. Some armed men were seen at a distance, but we could not come within range of them. A house belonging to a Mr. Reese was burned.
